Process layout

This application case features an automated logistics solution that uses VisionNav’s VNQ40 autonomous towing tractor to transport loaded products between factory buildings. Powered by advanced autonomous driving technology, this system performs inter-plant transfers with strict safety protocols, enabling real-time detection and avoidance of external obstacles or automatic emergency stops to ensure a secure operating environment.

Components

Robot
  • Robot 1: VisionNav VNQ40 (Autonomous Towing Tractor)

    • Max Payload: 4,000kg (Towing capacity)

    • Dimensions: 2,040 x 934 x 2,400mm

    • Weight: 960kg

  • Robot 2: VisionNav VNPA15 (Autonomous Counterbalanced Truck)

    • Lifting Height: 0 to 4,500mm

    • Max Payload: 1,500kg (Standard spec; application noted at 800kg)

    • Min. Stacking Aisle Width: 3,200mm

    • Dimensions: 2,790 x 1,185 x 2,110mm

    • Weight: 2,640kg

Workflow

STEP 1.Loading: Products to be transferred are loaded onto the tractor's trailers (facilitated by the VNPA15).
STEP 2.Transport: The VNQ40 tractor performs autonomous transit between designated factory zones.
STEP 3.Arrival: The tractor stops precisely at the designated unloading zone for the next process.
STEP 4.Unloading: The transported products are unloaded, completing the logistics cycle.

Features

Superior Operational Performance and Safety

  • High Precision: Utilizes Visual-SLAM technology to achieve positioning accuracy of ±5mm and navigation precision of ±10mm.

  • Human-Like Agility: Capable of navigating complex paths and avoiding obstacles at speeds comparable to human operators.

  • Advanced Protection: Ensures maximum safety through a 5-stage safety protection system and redundant control architectures.

  • Seamless Integration: Works in perfect synchronization with VisionNav’s automated forklifts to provide end-to-end process automation.

  • 24/7 Productivity: Enables continuous, round-the-clock operations to maximize throughput.

Minimized Deployment Time and Costs

  • Rapid Setup: Self-localization and autonomous path-finding capabilities significantly reduce installation time and infrastructure costs (no magnetic tape or reflectors needed).

  • Flexible Layouts: Easily adapts to changes in factory layouts or new task locations without physical modifications to the site.

  • Scalable Fleet Management: Capable of optimizing and managing a large-scale fleet of over 100 units simultaneously.

Results

Key Benefits
Replaced 12 manual forklift operators with a fleet of 8 AGVs and 3 autonomous tractors. Achieved a throughput of 24 Pallets per hour over a 12-hour shift.
Client Feedback
By automating not only indoor forklift tasks but also outdoor logistics transfers, we were able to minimize the costs associated with building separate infrastructure for connecting front-end and back-end processes.

This application case features the implementation of LG CNS's Dual-Picking Smart Gantry System. The Smart Gantry System is the world's first solution to apply a high-speed dual-fork method, enabling multi-sorting transport and stacking. Compared to single-type gantries, it maximizes space utilization by eliminating picking blind spots. Equipped with an optimization algorithm, the two pickers can operate simultaneously or independently from both sides of the bridge, allowing for rapid picking and storage. This system meets the evolving demands for high-performance automated equipment capable of "Storage + Picking + Process Integration," moving beyond traditional warehouse-style storage logistics. It offers superior flexibility and utility compared to other storage facilities.
