This application case features the implementation of LG CNS's Dual-Picking Smart Gantry System.

The Smart Gantry System is the world's first solution to apply a high-speed dual-fork method, enabling multi-sorting transport and stacking. Compared to single-type gantries, it maximizes space utilization by eliminating picking blind spots. Equipped with an optimization algorithm, the two pickers can operate simultaneously or independently from both sides of the bridge, allowing for rapid picking and storage.

This system meets the evolving demands for high-performance automated equipment capable of "Storage + Picking + Process Integration," moving beyond traditional warehouse-style storage logistics. It offers superior flexibility and utility compared to other storage facilities.

Components

Robot
  • Robot: Smart Gantry System

    • Speed: X-axis: 4m/s, Y-axis: 4m/s, Z-axis: 2.5m/s

    • Processing Ability: 305 cycles/Hr

    • Operating Temperature: -30°C to +40°C

    • Picker: Dual Configuration

    • Payload: 300kg per Picker

    • Control: Real-time Servo Control, Absolute Position Control, Direct Drive

Workflow

STEP 1.Products arriving at the logistics center are transported via the inbound conveyor.
STEP 2.Products moving along the inbound conveyor are automatically stacked and stored.
STEP 3.Stored products are automatically loaded onto the outbound conveyor according to shipping requests.
STEP 4.Products on the outbound conveyor are dispatched from the logistics center to their final destinations.

Features

Maximizing productivity with the world's first dual-picker application

  • Rapid cargo handling with world-class specifications for speed and acceleration/deceleration.

  • Minimizes movement paths through simultaneous and adjacent picking based on dual-picker technology.

  • High operational reliability: Even if one picker fails, outbound instructions can still be executed using the remaining one.

Maximizing stacking efficiency and space utilization with a zero-blind-spot structure

  • Superior space utilization with no "dead space," allowing for stacking even in corner areas.

  • Flexible and intuitive positioning adjustment based on optimization algorithms.

  • Enhances worker convenience, safety, and efficiency through active picking for inbound/outbound flows.

Cost-effective and rapid gantry system

  • 1.3x higher storage efficiency compared to mini-loads or shuttles by stacking directly on the floor without internal structures.

  • Easy to relocate, add, or expand since no structures are installed other than the main columns.

  • Reduces construction time by 80% and costs by 50% compared to traditional automated warehouses.

  • Superior outbound speed: Processing takes approximately 15 seconds after picking (compared to 40 seconds for mini-loads).

  • High-density stacking leads to excellent energy efficiency and easy maintenance.

Results

Key Benefits
Dual-picking method with zero blind spots. High storage efficiency and easy maintenance. Rapid installation and low construction costs. High-performance, flexible locally-developed (Korean) equipment.
Client Feedback
By introducing the Smart Gantry System and integrating it with inbound/outbound conveyors, we enabled sorting and stacking by store, vehicle, and item, achieving optimal logistics center automation.

LG CNS Multi-Level Shuttle (MLS)

LG CNS Multi-Level Shuttle (MLS)

This application case features the implementation of the LG CNS Multi-Level Shuttle (MLS) system. The Multi-Level Shuttle is a high-efficiency, "Light Version" shuttle AS/RS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) based on LG CNS's proprietary technology. By employing two shuttles operating in sync within the same aisle, it achieves over 1.6 times higher productivity than traditional single-shuttle systems. Furthermore, its modular design allows for horizontal and vertical expansion, much like LEGO blocks. Unlike conventional AS/RS systems that require large-scale installation and high investment costs, the MLS minimizes floor space by sharing shuttle travel paths across racks configured in two or more rows. This allows for installation in much tighter spaces. Its simple, module-based design is realized through the use of lightweight forming racks. As an advanced shuttle system with built-in collision avoidance, it enables real-time storage and high-speed inbound/outbound processing while maximizing space efficiency through shared aisle technology.

Cart Towing and Elevator Navigation using OMRON LD-250

This solution implements cart towing and cross-floor transport using OMRON's LD-250. The OMRON LD-250 is an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) that maps its environment and navigates along optimal paths, adapting to real-time changes on-site. While the LD-250 has a direct payload of 250kg, it can move even heavier loads when configured for towing. Its ability to interface with elevators allows for a much broader scope of automated cart transport across multiple floors of a building.
