Process layout

This vision inspection automation solution is designed for 100% PCB inspection, where the robot loads PCBs into the testing equipment and sorts them into "Pass" or "Fail" categories based on the results.

By replacing the repetitive manual task of constantly loading and unloading PCBs, companies can reassign operators to higher-value tasks, significantly improving labor efficiency. Furthermore, this solution allows manufacturers to transition from manual sampling to total inspection (100%), drastically enhancing the quality standards delivered to customers.

Components

Robot
  • Robot: Universal Robots UR5

    • Payload: 5kg

    • Reach: 850mm

    • Max Speed: 1m/s

    • Repeatability: ±0.1mm

    • (Option): Can be swapped with a Rainbow Robotics RB5 depending on preference.

Workflow

STEP 1.Loading: The robot picks a PCB from the waiting rack and loads it into the inspection equipment.
STEP 2.Inspection: The robot triggers the test and waits for the digital "Pass/Fail" signal.
STEP 3.Sorting: Based on the inspection result, the robot sorts the PCB into either the "Good" (Pass) or "Defective" (Fail) rack.

Features

High-ROI Automation Investment

Cost-Efficient Entry: Achieve high-level automation and significant labor cost savings with a relatively low initial capital investment.

Rapid Deployment: The streamlined setup process ensures a faster transition to automated production compared to traditional industrial systems.

Compact and Efficient Layout

Space-Saving Design: Utilizes the Universal Robots UR5, known for its high degree of freedom, allowing for installation in extremely confined spaces.

Minimal Footprint: Reclaims valuable factory floor space by integrating directly into existing manual workbenches without requiring extensive safety fencing.

Smart Automation System

Damage Prevention: Employs force-sensing electric grippers to ensure delicate handling, preventing PCB warping or component damage through precise grip control.

Seamless Interface: Easily integrates with legacy inspection equipment to synchronize loading and sorting triggers.

Advanced Scalability: Leveraging expertise in mobile robotics, the input/output racks can be further integrated with AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) for fully unmanned logistics flow.

Results

Key Benefits
Labor Optimization: Direct reduction in personnel required for repetitive PCB loading and unloading. Minimized Downtime: Eliminates the "idle wait time" typical of manual inspection, where machines sit empty between human operator cycles. Quality Consistency: Maintains a standardized inspection pace and handling protocol 24/7.

Defect Inspection of Cutting Tools using Doosan Cobots and Keyence Equipment

This vision inspection solution utilizes the Doosan M0609 collaborative robot and the Keyence Image Dimension Measurement System (IM Series) to automate the dimensional inspection and defect sorting of cutting tools. Previously, operators had to manually measure each part and perform visual inspections, which often led to human error in sorting and required a high amount of labor for simple, repetitive tasks. By implementing robot automation, inspections are now performed continuously without idle time. This has increased the precision of defect detection, simultaneously improving both productivity and product quality.
