This automation solution utilizes the Hyundai Robotics HS220 to automate the high-risk task of bending heavy steel plates into complex shapes.

Due to the weight and large dimensions of these products, manual operation is physically demanding and significantly hinders production efficiency. This project was initiated to boost productivity through heavy-load automation and to ensure workplace safety by removing workers from hazardous zones. Because the robot maintains its grip on the steel plate during the entire bending process, cycle times are shortened, ensuring high output and consistent quality.

Components

Robot
  • Robot: Hyundai HS220

    • Type: 6-axis articulated industrial robot

    • Payload: 220kg (Ideal for heavy steel sheets and large-scale grippers)

    • Reach: 2,666mm (Wide working envelope for handling large materials)

    • Weight: 955kg

    • Repeatability: ±0.11mm

Workflow

STEP 1.Picking: The robot picks up the heavy steel plate from the material stack.
STEP 2. Bending: The robot performs the bending operation in synchronization with the press machine.
STEP 3. Unloading: The finished product is loaded onto the discharge jig.
