Process layout

This machine tending automation solution utilizes two Hyundai HH7 robots mounted on an overhead linear track to automate the machining of hydraulic fittings for WIA KIT450 machine tools.

To maximize space efficiency, the robots are installed on a linear track above the machine tools. This overhead configuration allows for a highly efficient, continuous automated process. Because the front of the machine remains unobstructed, operators can easily access the equipment for tool changes and routine maintenance.

Additionally, this solution prevents musculoskeletal disorders in workers by automating the loading and unloading of heavy workpieces.

Components

Robot
  • Robot: Hyundai HH7 (2 Units)

    • 6-axis articulated robot, payload 7kg, reach 932mm, weight 42kg, repeatability ±0.03mm.

    • Additional Axis: Integrated 7th-axis linear track (Overhead Gantry type).

Workflow

STEP 1.(OP10) Pickup: The first robot picks the raw workpiece from the feeder.
STEP 2.Machining: The part is loaded into the turning center for the first stage of machining.
STEP 3.Alignment: The machined part is aligned for the next process.
STEP 4.Unloading: The first-stage completed part is unloaded onto a conveyor.
STEP 5.Transfer: The part is transported to the OP20 (second operation) station via the conveyor.
STEP 6.(OP20) Final Machining: The second robot loads the part into the next turning center for secondary machining.
STEP 7.Palletizing: The final machined hydraulic fitting is unloaded onto a pallet.

Features

Improved Productivity and Operational Efficiency

Cycle Time Minimization: Utilizes high-speed, high-precision industrial robots to achieve the shortest possible processing cycles.

Multi-Machine Tending: A single robot serves up to three machine tools, perfectly synchronizing with machining times to minimize idle periods.

Optimized Layout: The system configuration can be tailored and expanded based on the specific number of processing machines.

Continuous Production: Minimizes management intervention points, enabling seamless 24/7 automated operation.

Maximum Space Utilization via Optimized Layout

Overhead Installation: By mounting robots on top of the machine tools, the floor space footprint is minimized, maximizing overall facility utility.

Superior Accessibility: Since the front of the machine tools remains unobstructed, operators have easy access for routine maintenance and tool changes.

Smart and Optimized Process Management

Real-time Monitoring: Easily track work status through a smart operation panel.

Production Tracking: Monitor precise production quantities and real-time progress.

Smart Factory Ready: Fully compatible with integrated smart factory systems and data networking.

Shaft Manufacturing Machine Tending through YASKAWA GP7

Shaft Manufacturing Machine Tending through YASKAWA GP7

This automation solution utilizes the YASKAWA Motoman-GP7 to transfer shaft products that have completed their initial machining phase to the subsequent processing stage. The project was implemented to boost productivity by reducing standby and idle times while enhancing workplace safety by removing workers from high-risk environments. Transferring workpieces between machining stages is a process with a high potential for safety accidents. By automating this transition, the system eliminated hazards and shortened production lead times through continuous operation. With 18 units currently in operation, this project has significantly contributed to reducing fixed costs, such as labor expenses, by decreasing the required workforce by approximately 40 personnel across day and night shifts.
