Process Overview

This solution is a packaging process that uses the Hyundai Robotics YS080L to palletize pharmaceutical cartons onto pallets and perform wrapping (stretch wrapping). As an optimized turnkey packaging solution delivered by KT, it can be deployed with a low initial implementation cost, and by integrating with KT’s smart-factory platform Factory Makers, you can introduce a smart-factory system alongside the automation cell.

Through this solution, automated palletizing of heavy beverage cartons improved handling speed/throughput and helped prevent operator musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

Components

Robot

Hyundai Robotics YS080L (HDR80L-26) 6-axis articulated industrial robot Payload: 80 kg Horizontal reach: 2,635 mm Robot mass: 684 kg Repeatability: ±0.06 mm

Peripherals

Robot base Pneumatic gripper Carton infeed conveyor Pallet infeed jig and conveyor Wrapping unit (optional / separate) KT Factory Makers system

Workflow

STEP 1.Pallet infeed
STEP 2.Carton infeed
STEP 3.Carton position alignment
STEP 4.Carton picking
STEP 5.Cross-pattern layer-by-layer pallet stacking
STEP 6.Pallet transfer after 5-layer stacking completion
STEP 7.Pallet discharge after wrapping

Key Features

Stable handling and palletizing

  • Ensures stable stacking through tight (close) loading and layer-by-layer cross-stacking patterns.

Improves productivity and working conditions at the same time

  • Minimizes idle time and helps prevent operator musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

Compact footprint and fast deployment

  • Packaged as a turnkey solution covering the work method and production data, enabling rapid installation and ramp-up.

Efficient operation powered by KT smart-factory solution

  • Robot status/event monitoring and SMS alert notifications.

  • Operational data integration and production output tracking for efficient management.

  • Accessible via smartphones and tablets.

Implementation Results

Key Metrics
Increased productivity by enabling continuous operation with no idle/non-value-added work. Prevented operator musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) by eliminating heavy-load material handling tasks
Client Feedback
Heavy-load handling was difficult for operators to perform continuously and was often avoided, but robot automation removed the high-burden task, significantly reduced cycle time, and greatly improved productivity.

Position and Orientation Compensation using Hyundai HH7 and Conveyor Tracking

This logistics automation solution utilizes the Hyundai HH7 robot, the HRVision 3D vision system, and conveyor tracking technology to automate the manual task of recognizing text on boxes and aligning them according to the text orientation. By leveraging the high-speed processing of HRVision, the system can identify product images while in motion. Combined with conveyor tracking, the robot can pick and align moving objects without stopping the belt, ensuring a seamless and highly efficient workflow.

Product Sorting Automation using UR5 and Deep Learning

This next-generation sorting solution leverages 3D Vision, Deep Learning (Instance Segmentation), Reinforcement Learning, and Motion Planning (OMPL) to automate complex tasks such as product classification, assembly, and packing. By utilizing cost-effective 3D vision, the system recognizes the type and location of products and bins in real-time. This allows the robot to automatically compensate for shifts in the position of items or boxes without manual intervention. The integration of Motion Planning drastically reduces human teaching time, while Reinforcement Learning optimizes movements to minimize overall cycle times.
