Simply introducing a robot doesn't change anything.🚫

The movement of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises to increase competitiveness by introducing robots is growing day by day.πŸ“ˆ South Korea has the world's highest robot demand, ranking first globally in robot density—the number of robots installed per 10,000 workers. However, despite this high demand, it appears that the number of companies utilizing robots to 100% of their potential is remarkably small.😒

The reason is that many proceed with the introduction with only the vague idea that simply bringing in a ‘robot’ will automatically improve processes and make work more efficient.

In fact, the most important point in robot automation is not the robot itself, but the robot solution design, manufacturing, and follow-up management.

First, to design a robot solution perfectly suited for your process, the flow of each process must be understood in detail and in order, and then the necessary peripheral equipment for each essential part must be arranged and applied. This is because, generally, robots are not utilized alone and must be linked with peripheral equipment.

Additionally, selecting the exact robot that fits the process is crucial. When selecting a robot, it is important to choose the arm length and payload capacity that match the process.☝ This is because a minor oversight that requires an upgrade of the robot's specifications or the addition and supplementation of peripheral equipment can lead to a double consumption of time and money.😰

Therefore, a professional solution regarding which robot to introduce, which process to replace with the robot, and how to link it with peripheral equipment is absolutely necessary!

Once the robot solution design and installation are complete, constant follow-up management is essential to ensure that automation continues seamlessly.πŸ”§

If there is no dedicated robot personnel at the company after installation, or if the employees lack experience and skill, frequent mistakes and errors will occur. This leads to growing dissatisfaction within the company and excessively inflated costs.😱

In this process, companies conclude that how much they can save during the maintenance process determines the success or failure of the business. Therefore, the key is how thoroughly the company that built the solution handles operation and follow-up management after the introduction.

Ultimately, what companies want is not just a robot, but a robot automation solution that takes responsibility all the way through follow-up management.

Pick and Place Solution Using Picksis 3D Vision and Doosan Collaborative

This is a case of achieving automation by introducing collaborative robots to a client named Hyupjin Engineering, located in Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do. Hyupjin Engineering is a company that manufactures automobile parts and press molds.

The robot automation process requested by the client was picking up iron plates coming out of the press and stacking them by type. Originally, this was a process where workers manually lifted iron plates to stack them on a cart. One of the goals of this automation was to prevent labor turnover by automating a task that workers avoided most due to its difficult and repetitive nature.

The solution proposed by Marosol was an automation implementation using Picksys 3D vision and Doosan collaborative robots. Specifically, we introduced Picksys, which consists of a vision and collaborative robot package. Since Picksys is easy to install on-site and easy for customers to review based on standardized hardware, and offers a more competitive price than individual purchases while reducing the burden of additional setup costs, the client was very satisfied.

As a result, robot automation was successfully implemented. It became possible to recognize and handle workpieces of various shapes with 3D vision, and safe and efficient collaboration between the collaborative robot and the worker was enabled. Hyupjin Engineering gave positive feedback, stating: “By automating a process that workers avoided due to high weight and high risk, worker turnover has decreased. We are also satisfied that the work speed has improved.”

Order picking system in a Logistics warehouse using AMR

Next, we will introduce a case of achieving logistics automation. This client is a company named ‘Illo,’ located in Anseong, Gyeonggi-do. Illo operates a factory that manufactures textile products.

The robot automation process requested by the client was to build an order picking system using logistics robots. Order picking is the process of gathering ordered items from warehouse inventory by order unit for shipment. The client aimed to reduce the risk of worker musculoskeletal disorders and industrial accidents by introducing robots to high-intensity, simple repetitive tasks.

The solution proposed by Marosol is an order picking system that optimizes the operation of 10 Yujin GoCart 180 units using Marosol’s remote control system, SOLlink.

Logistics automation was also successfully implemented, resulting in more than a 2x increase in the maximum daily order picking throughput per worker, and achieving automation of musculoskeletal-straining tasks and a reduction in the turnover rate.

Illo provided feedback, saying: “By introducing robots, the work burden has decreased, and the tenure of automation workers has increased. We were also able to respond flexibly to sudden increases in cargo volume. In particular, the fatigue in the lower body has decreased dramatically because there is no need to walk around carrying goods. Human error has decreased thanks to the logistics robot system linked with the upper WMS system, which also increased customer satisfaction.”
