Logistics Robot / Autonomous Driving / AMR / Light Goods Transport

Hello! The all-knowing expert of the robot world, MaroSolomon, is back to greet you! πŸ˜€ With the lifting of social distancing restrictions, we see many business owners' faces brightening up these days. However, hiring new staff is still like "picking stars from the sky," making it hard to fully celebrate. In times like these, how about borrowing the power of a robot? If you inquire through Marosol, I, MaroSolomon, am on standby 24/7, so feel free to contact us! πŸ“ž

The solution I’m introducing this week is related to logistics robots. Since there are many types of logistics robots that help people by moving goods autonomously, many of you might be wondering which one to introduce. Before you decide! With a Marosol robot expert's solution, you can implement one without any issues. Shall we jump straight into the story? πŸ‘‰

The image above is not related to the client company.

The client who requested our help was a factory producing electronic components. They wanted a recommendation for a logistics robot capable of transporting light goods across an 800-pyeong ($2,645 m^2$) space. Let’s look at the specific issues the client faced:

βœ… We want autonomous driving without any auxiliary guidance devices.

βœ… There is a slight slope in the factory.

βœ… We are looking for a robot suitable for transporting light goods.

βœ… Our budget is limited—what should we do?

MaroSolomon immediately set out to find a solution based on these points! To provide the perfect fit, I didn't forget to ask about robots they had used previously and specific required specs.

Previously, the client had experience using robots equipped with AGV technology. However, due to the nature of AGVs, installing markers for route guidance was not aesthetically pleasing, so they hoped to use a robot equipped with AMR technology this time.

Wait a minute! βœ‹

  • AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle): A technology that moves along wires, magnetic strips, or sensors, following a fixed guide path.

  • AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot): A technology that can sense its surroundings, build an on-site map using various built-in sensors and laser scanners, and adapt itself to the environment.

However, AMR technology generally has a higher unit price than AGVs, so the client, with a limited budget, didn't have a wide range of models to choose from. πŸ˜“

It wasn't an easy situation, but this is exactly why MaroSolomon exists! After searching for the perfect robot considering the client's desired specs and budget, the one that caught my eye was... the OMRON LD-60 AMR!

After confirming safety specifications and the ability to drive on slopes, I recommended the OMRON LD-60. How does the LD-60 adapt to various environments like ramps?

The LD-60 has various built-in safety functions! First, the rear ultrasonic sensors can detect obstacles behind, and the front laser sensors can detect obstacles at low heights to prevent collisions. Even if the LD-60 comes into contact with an obstacle, don't worry. πŸ˜‰ The bumper in front of the LD-60 stops the robot instantaneously the moment it touches an object to prevent accidents.

Because both the laser scanner and ultrasonic sensors are designed to detect obstacles in the direction of travel, the robot can quickly sense people or objects and decide in real-time how to avoid them, safely transporting goods to the destination.

Can it handle the light goods transport requested by the client?

The LD-60 can transport heavy workpieces up to 60kg (and even more depending on the configuration, with a payload capacity often cited up to 60-90kg for this series). This means it can easily handle the current light goods and still do its part even if the workpieces get heavier in the future. πŸ’ͺ

The only remaining problem was the budget! To solve this, I contacted the supplier and highlighted that the client's factory scale and suitability for the purpose made it a great candidate for future follow-up projects and a reference case. Through this negotiation, we were able to secure the best possible price conditions.

The client who introduced the LD-60 reported increased productivity and decreased misdeliveries. They are full of praise, saying that labor costs for logistics transport have also been reduced. MaroSolomon was so proud of this solution that satisfied both the client and the robot manufacturer! 😚

Besides logistics robots, wearable robots that support high-intensity labor comfortably and safely are also in high demand in factories. To prevent serious industrial accidents, Marosol has prepared a special exhibition so you can introduce wearables reasonably.

If you inquire through Marosol, you can enjoy various installment finance products, events, and even government subsidy benefits, so please show your interest! πŸ§πŸ“ž
