Q. Hello Brian, a collaborative robot appearing at an EV charging station! How did this happen? 😮

Hello, Pengbok. I was quite surprised myself. This system is called the Moderntec Robot Arm Charger System (RACS), which enables 24-hour 1:N automated charging. Because a single robot and power unit charge multiple cars simultaneously or sequentially, the system can be built at a cost approximately 60% lower than competitor products.

Q. What, by 60%? That’s truly incredible!

Right. While the estimated amount is flexible depending on the charger capacity (120–240kW) or the robot's rail structure (floor-standing vs. ceiling-mounted), it is undeniably a significantly reduced cost. 😉

Q. But I can't help but worry. Can we really trust a robot to charge an expensive EV?

Of course. There’s no need to worry. Since it was designed to be operated 24 hours a day as an unmanned system regardless of nighttime, its convenience and stability are truly guaranteed. When you think of electric charging stations, you might think of safety accidents like electric shocks, but you can rest easy as it's designed to thoroughly prevent safety accidents that could occur during charging, providing a safe charging environment.

Q. I see there are also many advantages regarding the installation environment. What makes it so? 🤔

First, it has the advantage of enabling compact installation thanks to the separation of the power unit (Master) and the charging unit (Slave).

Also, you can install the movement track by choosing between ceiling-mounted or rail-type. A single robot moves on top of that track to perfectly charge multiple vehicles. Since it even utilizes patented technology for simultaneous/sequential charging, you can already sense its expertise, right? 😉

Q. It’s great that the track can be installed in two formats! I’m also curious—if the robot arm is to charge on its own, the parking position must be quite important.

That's why it was designed to enable charging by automatically correcting parking position errors using direction-sensing vision and a vision sensor installed at the end of the robot arm.

Even if you are slightly off from the official parking spot, the smart robot sees and judges on its own, making it a truly perfect unmanned charging system!

Q. Indeed, what more is there to worry about when you leave the work to a smart robot? 😉 Are there any other advantages besides these?

Certainly. You can integrate an ESS (Energy Storage System), which can trade solar power, with the charging station. Moving forward, you can even build integrated charging stations for things like E-Buses.
