Why Buyeo Dasarang Hospital Introduced Dogugonggan’s Patrol Robot 'Korso'
Buyeo Dasarang Hospital / Patrol Robot / Disinfection Robot / Dogugonggan
Hello, everyone! This is Pengbok, the mascot of Marosol, Korea's No. 1 robot automation platform. 🐧 Today, I had an interview with Director Jang Seong-in of Buyeo Dasarang Hospital, who introduced Corso, a patrol robot from Dogugonggan, through Marosol. 🎤
Corso is said to be thoroughly patrolling the interior of the hospital to see if any patients are escaping, while relieving the fatigue of the hospital's night workers. Additionally, it has a disinfection function, so it is smartly sterilizing every nook and cranny of the indoor space.
Shall we listen to a more detailed interview with the Director? 😎
Q. Hello, Director Jang Seong-in. Please give us a brief introduction.
Hello. I am Jang Seong-in, the director at Buyeo Dasarang Hospital located in Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do.
Q. What kind of hospital is Buyeo Dasarang Hospital?
Buyeo Dasarang Hospital is a psychiatric hospital with 192 beds and a three-story building with a playground in the center. There are a total of 4 doctors and about 50 employees working here.
Q. I heard that nursing hospitals were among the places that struggled the most during COVID-19. What were the problematic situations you had before introducing the robot?
There were many difficulties in managing patients during the COVID-119 era. Also, due to the nature of the hospital, safety management between patients and staff is important. While our staff is doing their best to care for patients, I thought that if an AI robot joined us in line with the changes and developments of the times, it could be of help in a deeper way.
Furthermore, Buyeo Dasarang Hospital is currently conducting remote medical treatment partially. I judged that if we expand remote medical treatment and introduce AI robots in the future, it could be a starting point for leaping into a smart hospital.
Q. Was there a specific robot solution/product that Buyeo Dasarang Hospital was looking for? If so, exactly what kind of solution was it?
Before encountering Marosol's service, I just vaguely thought, "The future will inevitably be an era where AI robots are essential." I wanted Buyeo Dasarang Hospital to take the lead in keeping pace with such an era. Then, by chance, I was connected with CEO Kim Min-kyo of Marosol, and I introduced the robot under the recommendation and guidance of the CEO, who has an extraordinary foresight into the robot market.
Q. What was the most worrying/difficult part during the process of introducing the robot automation solution?
The biggest concern was that since Buyeo Dasarang Hospital is a psychiatric hospital, the robot introduced for safety accidents might actually harm safety. I was most worried that while the robot was wandering around autonomously, mentally vulnerable patients might strike it or some other issue might arise.
However, the disinfection robot solution developed by Dogugonggan could accurately perceive and avoid obstacles during driving and could detect and record dangerous situations, so I was able to introduce it with peace of mind.
Q. After actually introducing it to the field, were there any concerns you had before the introduction?
While conducting several test runs before the introduction, I thought that this robot could perform many more roles in the hospital than I had expected. Also, after the test run, it was good to be able to deliver requests so that it could be used without a hitch in the actual field, such as asking Dogugonggan to supplement the monitor so that problems wouldn't arise when it was struck from the outside.
Regarding safety issues in operation, I plan to continue requesting additional upgrades by reflecting improvement points in the future, and Dogugonggan readily agreed, so we were able to introduce a good solution without worrying about each other.
Q. What was the actual reaction of the employees?
The reaction of the employees was very hopeful. As expectations were high, various requirements are also coming out. It has been practically very helpful in medical treatment and patient management, showing positive reactions. Since it is a concept of a robot that "helps" with things that medical professionals cannot do, there is no resistance at all.
Q. Before inquiring with Marosol, did you review robot automation in other ways?
Before knowing about the good service of Marosol, it was difficult because I had to put in the legwork myself. I managed to find one company and tried to contact them, but smooth connection was not achieved, perhaps because they were very busy. Since the robot market is not yet very active, for general customers like me, it was a real obstacle just starting from how to contact SI companies.
However, Marosol recommended a solution and an SI company that met my needs, so I was able to relieve my worries.
Today, I interviewed Director Jang Seong-in, who is working at Buyeo Dasarang Hospital. He said it was good to be able to easily find out the robot quotes or detailed specifications that were difficult to find out alone while using Marosol. 😊 Also, he said that by using Dogugonggan's patrol robot Corso, they were able to prevent the spread of infectious diseases during the COVID-19 situation and conduct night shifts instead of employees, improving the work satisfaction of the staff.
Marosol has recently been striving to strengthen medical industry capabilities by introducing robots to hospitals, such as conducting the "AI/5G-based large-scale robot convergence model demonstration project" hosted by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement together with Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital.
