This automation solution replaces manual plastic product inspection and QR code labeling with a system integrated with vision inspection and four Cartesian (Gantry) robots.

By utilizing four Cartesian robots, the workload is strategically distributed based on the required takt time, enabling rapid and continuous operations. The system performs comprehensive exterior inspections both before and after the QR code is applied, as well as a final attachment verification to minimize defect rates.

The project was initiated to achieve 100% inspection of all products to prevent defects or mixed-part issues, ultimately driving significant quality improvements and productivity gains.

Components

Robot
  • Robot: 4 Cartesian Robots (Multi-Axis Linear Systems)

    • Roles: 1. Product Stacking/Loading 2. Vision Inspection Support 3. Defect/Mixed-Part Sorting & Ejection 4. Finished Product Palletizing

  • Vision System: High-resolution cameras for exterior defect detection and QR code readability verification.

  • Labeling Unit: Precision applicator for consistent QR code placement.

Workflow

STEP 1.Feeding: Input of plastic products into the system.
STEP 2.Alignment: Precise correction of the product’s position.
STEP 3.Transfer: Loading the products onto the main workstation.
STEP 4.Exterior Inspection: Initial vision check for surface defects or incorrect part types.
STEP 5.QR Labeling: Accurate application of the QR code label.
STEP 6.Verification: Vision inspection of the attached QR code (readability and position).
STEP 7.Sorting: Automatic ejection of defective or mismatched parts.
STEP 8.Palletizing: Loading the verified "Good" products onto the discharge pallet.

Recommended Use Cases

15kg Heavy Insulation Palletizing using Vention 4-Axis Palletizer

15kg Heavy Insulation Palletizing using Vention 4-Axis Palletizer

This solution automates the transport and stacking of heavy 15kg insulation boxes by positioning a 4-axis palletizer in parallel with the pallets. The project was designed to improve a hazardous work environment where frequent manual handling of heavy insulation led to worker injuries. By integrating an automated conveyor system with Vention's palletizer, the project successfully automated the entire transfer and stacking process, reducing the cycle time to just 15 seconds. Operators can easily control the system and monitor real-time status through Vention's intuitive Palletizer MachineApp.

Inspection & Palletizing of Insert Molded Parts through YASKAWA GP8

Inspection & Palletizing of Insert Molded Parts through YASKAWA GP8

This automation solution streamlines the post-molding process for insert molded parts through the YASKAWA Motoman-GP8. It automates the entire sequence—from appearance inspection to the selection and palletizing of products—leveraging a high-precision vision system. The system performs simultaneous inspection of two products, executing individual discharge or palletizing based on the specific results for each. By replacing manual visual checks with 100% automated vision inspection, the solution has significantly improved detection rates and overall product quality.

Casting Operations through ABB IRB 6700 Foundry Plus

Casting Operations through ABB IRB 6700 Foundry Plus

This is a machine tending automation solution that utilizes the ABB IRB 6700 Foundry Plus 2 to transport castings and automate the loading and unloading of workpieces. The process involves transferring and handling molten metal at extremely high temperatures—a task that poses significant safety risks and results in slow production speeds when performed manually. By implementing ABB's specialized foundry robot, the facility has successfully secured workplace safety and drastically increased production throughput.
